Ana Luisa Bernárdez Notz is a multidisciplinary artist and DJ from Venezuela, residing in Toronto since 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography (Cum Laude) from OCAD University, and was the 2020 OCAD U Photography Program Medal Winner, as well as one of three recipients of the Project 31 Photography Awards. She was recently a mentee in Sur Gallery's 2019-2020 Mentorship Program. Currently, her art practice is rooted in the Venezuelan migrant and refugee crisis, and in collective and individual sentiments of loss and longing. Her most recent project looks into body-land ties that are transformed due to migration and lack of physical proximity, focusing on her own experience being away from the landscapes she grew up in.
As a DJ, she acknowledges the potential of music in creating spaces that honour migrant joy, diversity and resistance. She currently co-hosts Cuarenteca, an online party born out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
